Zero Waste Toothpaste DIY Recipe
If you don’t want to buy a pre-made zero waste toothpaste from any of the brands listed above, no worries! You can actually make your own DIY toothpaste that is also eco-friendly, vegan (if you choose), and will waste absolutely no packaging.
Here’s a recipe found at Trash is for Tossers that we enjoy. It is a great base recipe that you can build off of.
Ingredients Needed:
- 1 ½ tablespoons of baking soda
- 3 tablespoons of coconut oil
- 25-30 drops of organic food-grade essential oil (choose your flavor; they chose peppermint)
Instructions to Make:
- Mix all the ingredients above in a glass dish (they suggest a small one for easy access).
- Adjust the amount of essential oil used if needed.
- Mix it together again if you added more essential oil.
How to Use:
- Use a spoon to scoop a tiny bit of toothpaste out of the jar and place it on your toothbrush.
- Brush your teeth like normal.
Using a DIY toothpaste is very different from commercialized kinds of toothpaste-like the ones made by Crest or Scope. It will take some getting used to, but keep in mind that you are doing yourself and the planet a favor by making your own toothpaste. Your teeth will be just as clean too!
